It's starting to dawn on me that maybe the Republican candidates are looking totally out of touch with reality on purpose. The base and the expectations are too intransigent to actually change course and fix any of the damage Bush has done, and continuing the existing policies makes no sense, as evidenced by Romney wanting to double Guantanamo, and so on. I don't think they really want the job.
