Sam gets Fire trialist and former Fulham striker Collins John on the phone. Here's the key bit, for me:
"Obviously we've got [Patrick Nyarko] as a striker and [Brian McBride] as a striker but I think I'm a different type than both of them," John said. "McBride is good in the air and Pat is a good dribbler and I think I'm a totally different player... You might not see me for 15 minutes in a game and all of a sudden I score a goal. I'm a hunter, I just wait for the moment and then I grab it."
First, "Pat"? Nyarko doesn't strike me as a "Pat". Second, I like where John is coming from. It reminds me of the sort of goal poacher that the team has lacked ever since Ante "Heart of a Sniper" Razov left, and that's a role we need very badly. Plus, I don't think Patrick Nyarko is far enough along in his development to own that second starting forward position, and the team doesn't currently have many other strong attacking options behind him, unless Calen Carr surprises people in camp coming off his long injury layoff. If this trial doesn't pan out, we'll likely struggle to score goals again unless Frank Klopas has something else up his sleeve.
And, because I can't comment on one of Sam's articles without trying to, um, help him in his journalism studies, I feel I must point out that he sort of forgot to set up who Collins John is and where Craven Cottage is before just blithely mentioning he was a crowd favorite there. I think that assumes just a bit too much on the part of your audience.
