Count me among those who is not at all worried following the United States' lackluster performance in El Salvador for 75 minutes before rallying for a draw. Given how much I had been trying to reconcile a loss in my head as some sort of character-building exercise, Frankie Hejduk and Jozy Altidore certainly made my life easier. There's almost always a point in World Cup Qualifying when things don't go your way, and that the U.S. squad was able to lose the plot the way they did and still redeem themselves hopefully says something about both the mettle of the squad and indicates that we're already past that point in this cycle.
Or, as Landon Donovan put it in his remarks to the press, as picked up by Luis Arroyave, “It’s a wake up call. Better to get a wake up call when you tie than when you lose.”
But...but...but...I thought we were doomed. I thought Bradley was obviously over his head. I thought the US, with 300 million people, should just waltz into other countries and win 3-0 every game. You mean you didn't panic? What kind of fan are you? ;)
Wait, What?
