Remember that Brian McBride rumor that was burning up the Internet on Sunday and Monday? Ives has the lowdown:
According to team sources, there were never talks with Fulham about a McBride return to Craven Cottage.
So was the responsible thing to go into a histrionic fit about it as soon as it crossed Sky Sports' ticker, because it's news and there's not a lot of that this time of year for MLS? Or was it to completely ignore the story, knowing that there are much better uses of one's time than to get all bent out of shape by every rumor that the U.K. sports media offers up?
You have to get the team to deny it if you're the local writer. Instead, he's focused on a make believe controversy. Why would the Olympic bid and the World Cup bid affect each other. Rio is going for the 2016 Olympics, which will take place after Brazil hosts the 2014 World Cup. Last I checked, the US hosted the World Cup in 1994 and two years later Atlanta had the Olympics. You can't just fabricate controversy, but when something pops up about a player like McBride, a call to the team isn't too much to ask.
Are those the only two choices?
Come on, it wouldn't be the Internet without a false dichotomy!
