Both from Nick Webster's original article and Dan Loney's indignant response, it's so cute when people don't acknowledge that something has existed for years until it happens in their backyard.
And by "cute," I mean "self-centered and annoying." There have been more than a few incidents like this over the last ten years of Major League Soccer, which is in no way a defense of this sort of behavior. It's just that having had to work with Soldier Field security to escort a traveling group of D.C. United fans out of the building and the parking lot to ensure their safety seven or eight years ago, I bristle a bit at this sudden wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth and the notion that nothing matters until it happens in or around Los Angeles.
Particularly in Webster's case, because if you're going to make any claims of hooliganism, shouldn't you base that on more than a single incident? I realized the sharing of venue in Carson creates a somewhat unique situation, but even a modest bit of actual work would turn up some more context than some guy who wrote a book.
Wait, What?
