No, not the DC United player who will sit out today's match against the Fire (at least according to Fire forward Chris Rolfe). Fred Huebner, who will be handling the color commentary on today's debut of the Fire on "My50," aka WPWR in Chicago.
When the Fire announced the broadcast team for these additional matches, I was scratching my head. Huebner as play-by-play and Chris Doran as color? Really? That couldn't possibly be right.
As it turns out, it's not right. According to an e-mail released by the team on Friday, it will be Doran on the play-by-play call and Huebner providing commentary, which makes a heck of a lot more sense. So it was never Kenn vs. Hueb, although I'm not sure that makes it better.
I'm not sure where this ranks in terms of bone-headed mistakes in press releases this season, but it's up there. At least it was grammatically correct. As for Huebner being "one of the foremost soccer authorities in the Chicagoland media market and is one of the most recognizable soccer enthusiasts on air today," that's really not saying a whole heck of a lot, so it's probably defensible, as long as that "on air today" also refers to Chicagoland.
I'll have tape-delayed notes later, as my Sunday league plays at the same time as the Fire, so I won't be making the trek. If you're keeping score, that makes the extra-curricular priority list read something like music, then playing soccer, then watching soccer.
