NP: John Cage, 4'33
Everyone seems to think that the Senate GOP is "slow-walking" the final vote on the extension of unemployment benefits after the filibuster was broken so that the legislative body has less time to spend on other things, but having discussed the obvious timing of President Obama stepping up to the bully pulpit, I'm wondering if it also has to do with putting some distance between Obama's remarks and the passage of the bill, in order to reduce any appearance of causality.
If I wanted to get really conspiratorial about it, I might argue that the timing of the Shirley Sherrod "scandal" seemed awfully suspicious, in that it eliminated the possibility anyone would be talking about unemployment in the interim. Among non-news junkies, that could completely sever the connection. And what are those black helicopters doing over there?
