What We Know and When We Know It

The guy taking all the great pictures during FiveThirtyEight's road trip weighs in with some non-statistical notions about the end of the campaign. This one stood out:

04.) We'll know the election is over when the nets call Virginia for Obama at 8:40pm EST.

I've had friends and colleagues talk of another late election night, but with so many of the key states -- Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina -- are in the Eastern Time Zone, we may know sooner rather than later what we're in for. And if it happens that Georgia goes to Obama early, it's game over.
