This should be required reading for anyone who ever reports poll results, but I'm sad to say that will probably never, ever happen. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is correct anyone you hear saying the presidential race is a statistical tie. Unless they're on television, in which case they can't hear you and everyone around you will think you're a bit crazy. Trust me on this one.
