Good Point

NP: Countdown with Keith Olbermann

I caught a bit of Keith Olbermann talking to Chris Matthews before last night's Democratic debate, and Matthews was going on and on with this conventional wisdom that in order to score political points, Barack Obama and the other candidates would have to attack Hillary Clinton, to "draw blood."

I'm paraphrasing, but Matthews went on to say "I just don't know how else you can run in the primary."

That pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? That the media narrative is shaped by the media's own explicitly stated shortcomings? Because Chris Matthews can't conceive of another way to conduct a campaign, anything that doesn't reconcile itself with that lack of imagination is thereby a failing strategy.
