NP: Jonas Hellborg, Octave Of The Holy Innocents
Today's RedEye -- your source for all the non-news fit to print -- features a story (cross-posted to the Trib) about how the #66 bus has supplanted the #151 as the best public transportation venue for meeting people. While the story does make reference to a train conductor who used to designate his train the "Love Train," there's no mention whatsoever of the old #6 Jeffrey Express bus that was, definitively, The Love Bus. The driver even had a little sign right up the front, and would send his passengers off by saying "thank you for riding the Love Bus, now go out and spread a little love." Maybe this guy graduated to train conductor, but he was definitely driving on that bus line around 1990 or so, when the #6 was the main lifeline between the University of Chicago and downtown.
No mention in the story about making eye contact on the bus/train and then scouring the "missed connections" ads in The Reader -- or, now, Craigslist -- as a way to meet people, which was my jokingly-but-maybe-not-really stated M.O. at one point. Suffice it to say, I wasn't meeting many people at that one point.
