I'm actually going to partake in some Premiership predictions in conjunction with my local watering hole, but make no claim whatsoever to knowing jack about the EPL. No math going on here, either, at least until I have a couple weeks of results. In addition to weekly matches, there's also a one-off that has more big-picture stuff.
So, without any further Freddy Adu, here is my prediction for the league table:
1. Chelsea
2. Manchester City
3. Arsenal
4. Manchester United
5. Aston Villa
6. Liverpool
7. Everton
8. West Ham
9. Fulham
10. Hull City
11. Tottenham
12. Portsmouth
13. Bolton
14. Wolverhampton
15. Blackburn
16. Birmingham City
17. Wigan
18. Sunderland
19. Stoke City
20. Burnley
This is not entirely guesswork. Everyone seems to think Man City's buying spree will backfire, so I'm just being contrary there to try to gain an edge if everyone happens to be wrong. And I'm banking on injuries taking a big toll on United, particularly early-season goalkeeping problems. Liverpool has depth problems that will cause them to struggle if Gerrard or Torres get hurt. Most of the rest, though, is casting about in the dark.
As for the first week of matches, this is what I picked:
Chelsea 3-0 Hull City
Villa 2-1 Wigan
Blackburn 2-3 Man City
Bolton 0-0 Sunderland
Wolves 1-0 West Ham
Pompey 1-2 Fulham
Stoke 2-0 Burnley
Everton 1-1 Arsenal
Man Utd 4-1 Birmingham
Spurs 0-1 Liverpool
I fully expect to totally suck at this, but we'll see.
Hull City 10th? ManU 4th?
I'd like to see it but I don't think so...
Since I'm not officially doing it, how about I just say here what I think might happen? I think you've got to be in the ballpark (on this pitch?) for a lot of these so...
Chelsea 4-1 Hull City
Villa 1-0 Wigan
Blackburn 0-2 Man City
Bolton 0-1 Sunderland
Wolves 1-0 West Ham
Pompey 2-2 Fulham
Stoke 2-0 Burnley
Everton 2-1 Arsenal (this is a tough one! but I'm going with Everton out of city loyalty)
Man Utd 3-0 Birmingham
Spurs 1-2 Liverpool
Now, how terrible I do will be documented and will reinforce that I should not gamble and have no luck!
