Pro-soccer Bias?

Just saw this first paragraph in a Reuters piece on the non-sale of the Phoenix Coyotes:

A U.S. bankruptcy judge rejected the proposed sale of bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes hockey team to the co-CEO of BlackBerry maker Research in Motion who planned to move the side to Canada.

Nick can probably answer this, but do people outside of the soccer world call them "sides" instead of "teams"? I don't know that I've ever seen it, but I don't read as much coverage of other sports as most people. Has Reuters been infiltrated by furriners?

Comments

Reuters has a lot of international writers, don't they?

I have seen it used from time-to-time, BUT Reuters is a London-based wire service so ... you get the idea. I've used "club" in AP copy instead of "teams."
