Here's Hoping

The much-maligned MLS Rumors is reporting that the reason DC United changed its home opener from San Jose to Chicago was so that a certain recent Chicago transplant to our nation's capital can attend. Unlike many of the site's rumors, this one almost seems to pass the sniff test, and would be pretty awesome, although it's equally likely someone has passed along someone's comment to Goff's story -- or maybe a BigSoccer comment in response to the story, not that I'd know -- as a bona fide rumor.

I would definitely understand if MLS made the switch purely in the hopes that Obama might attend, not based on any sort of confirmation. At the very least, the Chicago-to-Washington story would be a big hook for promotion, one way or the other. "First, Barack Obama came to Washington from Chicago with a victory. Now Cuautemoc Blanco and the Chicago Fire hope to do the same!" The commercials write themselves.
