I don't think I posted anything about it, but a while back, Frank Klopas seemed to be relying on "Toronto needs to do what's good for the league" as his main argument for not giving up too much to get the allocation required to bring Brian McBride home to the Chicagoland area. To me, this seemed like a really flimsy argument. Now that Don Garber has said that the league may have to intervene, I may have been wrong. That is, if the Fire can get McBride without giving up someone irreplaceable.
And, from what I hear, "irreplaceable" is sort of a key word in these negotiations. While Toronto is right to want a starting-caliber player in exchange for McBride, the Fire would be foolish to give up someone in a position where they don't have at least some depth -- someone else who is ready to start at that position. And there are some next steps that then become logical when you think about them, but you'll have to figure those out on your own.
Doesn't "Chicagoland," by definition, mean "an area?" Is "Chicagoland area" really necessary? ;)
