Decoding Allen Hopkins

In a recent ESPN.com column, sideline reporter Allen Hopkins writes:

Wrongly considered by many as much more of a compiler than an upper-echelon goal scorer for most of his career, Ante Razov is proving to be one of the league's all-time best.

I've been around soccer for a while. What the fuck is a compiler? I actually like Hopkins, but I have to say, I have no freakin' clue what he's talking about.

I don't know that one, either.

In context, maybe he's saying some may have thought that Ante may collect stamps, but he's no philatelist. And, of course, they'd be wrong.

I'd like to be like Ante.

After all, imitation is the sincerest form of philately.
