Saying the Right Thing

NP: Snow Patrol, "You're All I Have"

I was reading The Week's coverage of the decision to maybe not hold the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in New York City -- I'd link, but it's only available to subscribers -- and the thing that struck me about the GOP/Conservative side of the argument was how inherently fearful it is. So I was really happy to see Talking Points Memo report that Deputy National Security Advisor John Brennan said this:

"Terrorists are not 100-feet tall. Nor do they deserve the abject fear they seek to instill. They will, however, be dismantled and destroyed, by our military, our intelligence services and our law enforcement community. And the notion that America's counterterrorism professionals and America's system of justice are unable to handle these murderous miscreants is absurd."

I don't know if this line of reasoning can or will gain any traction, because the American public has this ingrained disdain for reason, particularly when it relates to terrorism. But it's good to see someone saying this out loud.
