More Neolithic Than Neocon

NP: Cracker, "Low"

One thing I've noticed in the coverage of Mancow's waterboarding is this notion that he's a "right-wing radio host" in the mode of Hannity, Limbaugh, etc. Having been in the guy's primary market for many years, that doesn't seem accurate.

The best way I can describe it is that he's maybe SpikeTV's idea of a right-wing talk show host than anything else. Start with a shameless imitation of everything Howard Stern has ever done, add that certain flavor of machismo that's endemic to middle-aged suburban men who listen to Guns N' Roses, and finish it off with a dose of libertarianism.

Which isn't to say he's any good, just that he's not a "right-wing talk show host" in that same sense. He's certainly gotten more political since his pure shock-jock days, but I still don't see him in that company.
