The Perils of Short-Term Thinking

NP: Rob's iPod at Vaughan's

Nate Silver points out how all that right-wing gnashing of teeth about how the stock market had dropped since Obama was either elected or inaugurated is no longer operational.

Of course, the whole point of the exercise isn't long term, so I don't know how much it matters. Everything from the right-wing media machine is predicated on a lack of long-term memory, and maybe even short-term memory, so the fact that a message from two months ago no longer holds water doesn't really mean anything. For the right-wing media, every talking point and every message is ephemeral, to the point where it can dissolve right before your eyes in the course of a 24-hour news cycle and never be heard from again.
