Modern Fact-Checking

NP: John Cage, 4'33"

Nate Silver points out that the most rigorous fact-checking he's ever experienced has been from Sports Illustrated. I don't know that the mainstream news media is averse to fact-checking, as much as they've gotten confused in the Internet age. They check facts, just not with credible sources, and end up subjected to the wikiality of it all, to borrow a word from Stephen Colbert. Which ends up being an extension of the fake objectivity that has permeated journalism in the last decade, where even the most crackpot, easily disproven argument is given voice in the name of "balance."
