Another Suggestion

If the Obama campaign really wanted to dig in on this whole "lipstick on a pig" ridiculousness, Obama would come out and say "some people are trying to make it sound like I was comparing Governor Palin to a pig. If I wanted to use the Governor's line in her convention speech as an attack, wouldn't it make more sense for me to point out that the only difference between Governor Palin and President Bush is lipstick?"
