As Bad As You Could Imagine

NP: The Verve, Forth

When the Tribune announced they were moving the head of the free and stunningly craptacular RedEye over to the Tribune proper, I joked to myself* that it would only be a matter of time before the paper was overrun with vapid non-coverage of non-stories on the premise that the news itself isn't newsworthy enough. Then I figured that they wouldn't be so dumb as to confuse what works for a free tabloid with what's required of a respectable news venture.

If the leaked redesign is any indication, it seems they are, in fact, that dumb. Trib? Really? Were people really having so much trouble with "Chicago Tribune"? I still, to this day, don't get the Tribune's preternatural fascination with branding and re-branding, particularly in a medium where content is clearly the most important thing.

* I really, really need to start blogging these things, because if you know me, you know that I really, really enjoy being proven right.
