The Line In The Sand

NP: Weezer, Weezer (Red Album)

This whole John Edwards situation is a fascinating, if somewhat inconsistent, reflection on the media, although I don't have the same nearly hysterical take on it as Bill Wyman. On the one hand, I understand not wanting to give the National Enquirer the benefit of the doubt on what seemed to be a very thinly-sourced story. In fact, I think that was more of a factor than concern about Elizabeth Edwards' well-being.

On the other hand, no one seems to have a problem reporting on thinly-sourced stories from Matt Drudge. In among all the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, I'd love to see someone address this angle, and by "love to see," I mean "delivered to my RSS reader or Inbox," because I don't want to actually go looking for it.

As for me, I haven't been able to get "Billie Jean" out of my head all weekend. This also makes for a good litmus test as to which pundits are totally in the tank for which candidate, based on how loudly they proclaim that this development is bad for either Obama or McCain.
