Ideology or Geography?

NP: Gogol Bordello, Super Taranta!

Apparently, Mike Bloomberg is making noise about getting into the presidential race again, which makes the Iowa caucuses next week even more interesting than they are already.

Did I just say the Iowa caucuses are interesting? I gotta get out more.

Anyway, I found this excerpt to be revealing.

Despite public denials, the mayor has privately suggested scenarios in which he might be a viable candidate: for instance, if the opposing major party candidates are poles apart, like Mike Huckabee, a Republican, versus Barack Obama or John Edwards as the Democratic nominee.

It's telling that neither Giuliani nor Clinton show up in this formulation. They're not even mentioned in the article once between the two of them. I'm guessing Bloomberg is as sensitive to a "subway series" campaign as he is to any other factor.
