The Medium Isn't The Message

NP: Marvin Gaye, "What's Going On"

Over at the Freakonomics blog, Stephen Dubner brings up some good points about PowerPoint-hate. I've been to one of Edward Tufte's presentations on presenting, and came away thinking that the problem isn't necessarily that the program itself. The problem is that if you use the program to build your content, then yeah, your presentation is likely going to suck. If you've got solid content -- if you've got a good story to tell -- then the medium shouldn't be able to diminish that, kind of like how a good song stands up when you play it as a reggae tune, or a country tune, or a waltz.
