It ended up only taking about four days, but I think I successfully hacked my sleep cycle. Last week I managed to wake up very badly two days in a row -- that intensely groggy morning where you presumably wake up somewhere within Stage 3 or Stage 4 sleep. I knew I had turned in at 12:30 one of those days and 12:00 on the other, so if you subscribe to the notion of 90-minute sleep cycles (and I do), that would mean getting to bed around 11:30 or 1:00 should work.
Now I've got two data points where I went to sleep around 11:30, and I definitely woke up much more refreshed both of those days. Tonight I'll test the other end of that scale and go for 1am after Vaughan's.
