I was trying to find a hook for this story. Josh Marshall helped me along. I was going to go with another bizarre story of diversification, like a water utility becoming a media conglomerate, but the conspiracy angle works much better.
I guess the obvious synergy is between the military-industrial complex and the Columbian drug coffee lords.
