Magnitude by Comparison

NP: David Bowie, Aladdin Sane

It's looking increasingly likely that the deadly earthquake-and-tsunami combo platter will exceed the number of dead from all natural disasters combined last year.

Meanwhile, for more comparisons, Dubya has offered up less in relief than it's going to cost for his inauguration. There's no way to make that stat look good. I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that someone, somewhere, it going to say something dumb like "they (meaning some amorphous description of the international community) didn't support us in Iraq, so why should we support them?" If you find that sort of sentiment out and about, let me know.

Maybe we can set an over/under on how long it takes Malkin or Coulter to come up with it.

The one bit of the story that absolutely fascinated me, especially as I'm throwing around statistics and other numbers, was that the island of Sumatra has apparently now been relocated by about 100 feet.
