A Mighty Wind

NP: The Darkness, Permission To Land

I fear I've been helping to perpetrate a myth upon countless, tens, nay hundreds, nay THOUSANDS of unsuspecting souls since moving to Chicago. Particularly souls who don't live in Chicago, as when I tell them that's where I'm at, they mention "The Windy City" monkier. My typical reply? The legendary wind off the lake isn't the source of that particular nickname, but rather the blowhards in the local government machine. Heck, if it's a good enough explanation for the Chicago Tribune, that bastion of quality journalism -- stop laughing -- it's good enough for me!

Except that it's wrong. Cecil's got the much-ignored scoop, as usual. Occam's Razor being what it is, we're The Windy City because of the wind. If we're really The Second City because of an inferiority complex toward New York and not because the first one burned down, I'm gonna be pissed.
