NP: Allan Holdsworth, Metal Fatigue (CD)
I'm feeling kinda ornery today. Probably because the entirety of my life consists of waiting right now, and when you've had as much down time as I have in the last two years, that's just not productive.
That said, I'm trying to find good put-your-head-down-and-work stuff to deal with that can take my mind off of waiting for the phone to ring. And it's not like I'm living completely in a vacuum, although sometimes it feels pretty close. Massive outbursts of effort to get things going just have this habit of being followed by equally massive periods of quiet. Or it could just be that it's gloomy outside and I looked at my finances last night, which can be sobering at times.
I've been taking some inspiration this week from new Nets coach Lawrence Frank. This kid comes into his first head coaching job, having never played high school, college or pro ball, and sets a new record for consecutive wins out of the gate. And he's less than a year younger than I am. On the one hand, he seems monomaniacal to a fault, but on the other, the story still speaks volumes about setting your mind to doing something and following through.
There was probably something else, but I forgot.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that some of my friends will be reading from their blogs on Saturday night. Details can be found at Gapers Block, one of the event's sponsors. I was approached about contributing to the evening, but I have a well-documented record of wondering why anyone would read this thing, let along why anyone would want to hear me read it to them. So, yeah, I'm still struggling with what, exactly, I'm hoping to accomplish here.
And no, it's not as easy as this forum existing in order to justify it's own existence. Or as complicated. Or something else, but just as likely not.
