Senses working overtime

So, I'm reading this article on the upcoming onslaught of reality TV this summer in the New York Times (registration required), and I come across this collection of words I can honestly never expected to see before. There's a quote from someone who is described as "a special events coordinator at the Sense of Smell Institute in New York." I'm not making that up. There is an institute in New York dedicated to the olfactory arts, and apparently they have special events.

The icing on the cake, though, is that said events coordinator was very articulate in expressing her thoughts on reality programming. "When a scripted show isn't smart, it's bad; but when a reality show isn't smart, for some reason, it's entertaining," our smelly party person stated. "For some reason, you get off on the vapidity, sluttiness, stupidity and awkwardness of these shows."

I guess it would have been too easy for her to say that the shows stink?
