[drumming diary] Smooth Criminal

Foxide rehearsal last night, and two things are worth noting. First, I felt pretty good about the feel of most everything we played. It's odd, because I haven't really been practicing much. This was my first time hitting my drums since our gig on Saturday night, but things just felt good. In particular, we finally seem to be nailing Fiona Apple's "Criminal" to the wall. Nice, slinky groove going on, which had been elusive in the past.

Also, I almost thought my ears had suffered some sort of damage, as the crash cymbal on my right side just sounded off. Too quiet, and really clangy. Upon further inspection, there's a fairly sizeable crack, which in the bigger scheme of things, is much better news than hearing loss, but is still sort of annoying, as this Zildjian didn't last nearly as long as the 18" Sabian that preceded it. I'll have to check with my friend Steve and see if he can trade it in for me as part of his endorsement deal.
